My thesis explores my experience growing up with very curly hair in a family that didn’t share that texture. Through these paintings, I reflect on the rituals, frustrations, and moments of care that shaped my sense of self. Early memories of my parents learning to do my hair became stories of love and persistence. Later, as I grew older and found community among others celebrating natural curls, my relationship with my hair evolved from confusion to confidence. Now, something I wouldn’t change for the world.
